Black and White

These are a collection of backgrounds I did for my third year group film. As you can see from the post below, which was also work done for the same film, the story changed significantly and so the art direction with it. I did the production design and layouts for this film along with the talented Saud Boksmati who also designed the characters.

This was a very dark story about abuse, slavery and oppression. Colour seemed redundant, and even the few tests I did with a gloomy colour scheme seemed inappropriate. A scratchboard like treatment was the base idea for this style.

While the idea’s were drawn from a variety of media and artists, major influences were Lynd Ward and Kathe Kollwitz. It really makes a difference if you see it in a way where your whole screen is covered in black and white.
